The Teen Outreach Program® for Systems Involved Youth in TN
Oasis Center, in cooperation with the Wyman Center and the TN Department of Children’s Services, is leading a statewide effort to make Wyman’s Teen Outreach Program available to youth in the foster care and juvenile justice systems in TN. TOP® is an evidence-based model that provides engaging and empowering experiences that support healthy social and emotional development in teens. Elements of TOP include:
Weekly Peer Group Meetings
The TOP curriculum is focused on key topics related to adolescent health and development, including building social, emotional, and life skills; developing a positive sense of self; and connecting with others.
Service & Leadership Opportunities
A unique aspect of TOP is the requirement that youth participate in at least 1 hour per week of community service learning activity. Usually, a project carried out by a TOP group working together to address a community problem of interest to them.
High Quality Facilitation
Crucial to the TOP model are well trained and caring adult facilitators prepared to create engaging and empowering learning experiences.
TOP empowers teens with the tools, opportunities and social emotional skills needed to avoid risky behaviors and become leaders with a powerful vision for their future.
